Our Commitment to Confidentiality

Some stories can only be told in a space of trust. At Abalia House, confidentiality is not simply a precaution: it is an integral part of the way we work.

A Narrative Portrait may emerge from personal conversations, memories, correspondence, photographs, family or professional archives, and sometimes from material that has never been shared beyond a very small circle.

Everything entrusted to Abalia House as part of a project is treated with the utmost discretion, from the very first conversations through to the completion of the book.

What Is Entrusted to Us

Confidentiality extends to all material shared or created throughout the project: conversations and interviews, notes and recordings, photographs, correspondence, documents and archives, personal or professional information, as well as the texts, layouts and working versions of the Narrative Portrait.

The book itself remains private.

Its creation does not grant Abalia House any right to present it publicly, reproduce any of its pages or disclose its content for communication, promotional or portfolio purposes without the prior consent of the client.

Discretion Throughout the Entire Project

Confidentiality does not apply solely to the finished book. It begins with the very first conversation.

The information gathered is used solely to the extent necessary for the conception and creation of the Narrative Portrait. Where a project requires the involvement of an external professional — including for printing, illustration, photography, translation or any other specialised service — only the information necessary for their work will be shared, within an appropriate framework of confidentiality.

Abalia House also takes care to retain documents and working materials only for as long as necessary for the creation and follow-up of the project, in accordance with applicable personal data protection requirements.

Stories That Involve Others

A personal story is rarely the story of one person alone. Family members, friends, colleagues or others may naturally appear within a narrative.

Abalia House takes particular care with content relating to third parties and may ask for certain material to be clarified, reworded, documented or, where necessary, supported by appropriate consent.

This care helps protect both the people referred to and the client.

A Relationship Built on Trust

Telling someone’s story sometimes means looking beyond what appears in official biographies or perfectly ordered photo albums: the anecdotes, contradictions, exchanged words, tiny memories and everything that gives a story its depth.

That freedom to tell a story is only possible when it is built on trust.

For this reason, Abalia House considers discretion, respect for privacy and the careful handling of everything entrusted to us to be inseparable from its editorial work.
